1. Do you or have you ever used tobacco? No tobacco, ever!
2. Alcohol abuse? No alcohol. Don’t like the stuff.
3. Do you eat a healthy diet and maintain a healthy weight? Diet could be better. Wife does a wonderful job with healthy food at home. I just eat too much and could stand to lose a few pounds.
4. Do you have any health struggles or chronic conditions? No chronic issues.
5. Do you exercise enough? No time to work out, but go on walks when I can.
6. Do you agree with the experts who say you can control 60 percent of the factors that lead to early death? What about the 40 percent genetic factors? Agree that at least 50 percent can be controlled. Good luck with genetics.
7. Do you get enough sleep? Not enough sleep. Have to get up early to catch up on work from the day before.
8. How do you talk to patients about the need to control their weight, stop smoking or exercise more? Are those conversations awkward but necessary? I have a frank conversation about the need for those things, but they are the only ones who can make the change.
9. How do you unwind at the end of a busy day? By doing anything except work. I like reading, yard work, gardening, talking with my wife and going for a walk.
10. Who do doctors see when they get sick? Unfortunately, as a group, doctors can be stubborn about seeing a physician. A lot of self-diagnoses are made.
